There Are Still Secrets To Be Discovered In Sooke | Pirjo Raits
"Upcycling is a new buzz word which perfectly describes what Phyllis Lysionek is doing. She scours second hand stores seeking out women's tops in excellent condition made with great fibres. She then turns them into "art tops" barely distinguishable from the original rather common garments they once were. The sweaters and tops are then highly adorned with bits of lace, satins, silks and other bits of finery, making them unique and one-of-a-kind - a sort of shabby chic top. But shabby in the traditional sense, much like how designers turn thrift store furniture into unique decor."
"The converted garage is bright, airy and full of unexpected things."
"Industrious, creative and tenatious, Lysionek adds a wonderful Irish flair to the arts and crafts scene in Sooke. The studio is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1575 Whiffen Spit Road."
